Public Works: Webpage Update
Updated on January 21st, 2026
Public Works Update – January 21:
• Back alleys are now open and passable. Contractors finished their work this past Sunday (18th).
• The Public Works crew is now working on grinding down and removing several “ice islands” left behind from earlier snow blower operations in multiple areas around town.
• Sanding will continue as needed.
Winter Weather & Snow Removal Reminder:
Our Public Works team will begin snow removal operations according to our 32-10 Snow & Ice Removal – Service Level Standards:
Priority 1 – Emergency Routes
Hospital zones, community connectors, and critical intersections are cleared first, within 24 hours of a significant snowfall (15 cm or more).
Priority 2 – Main Roads
Once emergency routes are clear, crews will move to main roads and high-traffic areas.
Priority 3 & 4 – Residential Areas
Residential snow clearing will begin when the snowpack (compacted snow accumulation) reaches 10–15 cm, depending on the area. Please note this refers to compacted snow depth, not just freshly fallen snow.
During residential clearing, snow will be stored on sidewalks, lawns, and boulevards to ensure safer vehicle and pedestrian movement. If large snow piles are distributed on your side of the street (as per the Odd/Even Year schedule), you will not be fined for uncleared sidewalks.
When another significant snowfall occurs, operations will recycle back to Priority 1 (emergency routes) before continuing through the priority cycle again.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our crews work to keep roads safe and clear this winter.
For safe and efficient snow removal:
If you see crews working on your street, please try to move parked vehicles before the equipment makes its first pass. Additionally, please remove any other obstructions that may impede snow removal operations.
Driving around working equipment:
We ask the public to be considerate while crews are working for everyone's safety. Be courteous when approaching heavy equipment. Slow down, follow from a safe distance, or take another route to give operators enough space to reverse and efficiently clear town roadways.
