Slave Lake RCMP CRU conducts drug investigation

Slave Lake, Alta. – On Oct. 29, 2025, the Slave Lake RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) received information regarding a residence in Slave Lake where drugs were being trafficked. On Nov. 13, 2025, Slave Lake RCMP CRU, with assistance from Slave Lake RCMP General Duty members, executed a search at the residence and conducted arrests.

As a result of the search, the following items were seized:

  • A large amount of precursors;
  • Fourteen baggies of methamphetamine ready to sell;
  • One baggie of heroin; and
  • Drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, Shelby Carifelle (30), a resident of Peavine Métis Settlement, Alta., and Joey Bigstone (32), a resident of Slave Lake, were arrested. Carifelle was charged with Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, Possession of a controlled substance and Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Bigstone, who is a known prolific property offender, was charged with Possession of break-and-enter tools.

Carifelle and Bigstone were brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Slave Lake on Dec. 10, 2025.
