Slave Lake RCMP CRU arrests known offender for breaching release order

Slave Lake, Alta. – Slave Lake RCMP have been receiving multiple calls and community concerns regarding suspicious and possibly criminal activity within the community. With this in mind, the Slave Lake RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was established to alleviate these concerns. On the night of May 17, 2025, a Slave Lake RCMP CRU member was doing proactive patrols in the Slave Lake area when they noted a known offender. The member conducted checks and realized that the offender was breaching his court-ordered release conditions. The member proceeded to the arrest of the suspect.

As a result of the investigation, Garett Auger (36), a resident of Wabasca, Alta., was charged with four counts of breaching court-ordered release conditions. He was brought before the justice of the peace and remanded into custody, to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Wabasca on May 22, 2025.

“We would like to once again thank the public for coming forth with their concerns and complaints,” said S/Sgt Casey Bryuns, Detachment Commander of the Slave Lake RCMP. “We established this Crime Reduction Unit in order to answer some of these concerns. Part of their mandate is to ensure that known offenders, and those out on specific court orders, respect the law and their conditions, thus contributing to public safety”.
