Town of Slave Lake will offer free public information sessions once a month from January to September for Slave Lake residents interested in running for Town Council in the upcoming 2025 general election. The information sessions will be hosted by the Town of Slave Lake administration in the Council Chambers from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on the following dates:
- January 8, 2025
- February 19, 2025
- March 5, 2025
- April 2, 2025
- May 7, 2025
- June 4, 2025
- July 2, 2025
- August 6, 2025
- September 3, 2025
Each information session will go over the roles and expectations of being a member of council and for campaigning. Included in these sessions will be an overview of Council's jurisdictional authority in relation to the provincial and federal government and how it works with administration to accomplish its goals for the community. Guidelines for campaigning, such as spending limits, fundraising, advertising, etc., will be addressed along with relevant legislation that members of council must follow as elected officials. Council and administration are encouraging anyone interested in running for Town Council in the upcoming general election to attend one of these sessions to ask questions and be informed about the local election process in Slave Lake and in Alberta.
