[ARCHIVED] Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) -Public Advisory Member Search

Copy of Blue and Green Casual Corporate App Development Facebook Post

The Town of Slave Lake is currently in the beginning stages of re-writing our Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB). We are currently seeking members of the public to sit on our Public Advisory Community.

The purpose of this MDP is not only to fulfill that statutory requirement, but also to express the aspirations of the Council and citizens of the Town of Slave Lake with respect to the long-term development and sustainability of their community. This project will aim to affirm the land use and development goals, objectives, and policies that are intended to guide the future actions and decisions of the Council and administration of the Town of Slave Lake. The MDP sets forth a policy and regulatory framework for both public and private land use and development within the Town. In addition to providing a means of coordinating municipal infrastructure, operations, and management of the Town, the MDP establishes long-term direction toward the achievement of sustainable development within the community.

The purpose of the Land Use Bylaw is to regulate and control the use and development of land and buildings within the Town of Slave Lake. The MDP guides how we set regulations for development in the Town of Slave Lake. This Bylaw provides a foundation for the Town to achieve the orderly development of lands for that purpose, among other things:

  • To divide the Town in districts;
  • To prescribe and regulate for each district the purpose for which the land and building may be used;
  • To establish the office of the Development Officer;
  • To establish the method of making decisions on applications for development permits including issuing of development permits; and
  • To provide the manner in which notice of the issuance of a development is to be given.

Both documents are important pieces that help to guide how the Town of Slave Lake grows and supports current and future development of the community. If you would like to view the current documents they are under the Planning and Development section on our website.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Public Advisory Committee throughout this project, please email planning@slavelake.ca expressing your interest and provide your preferred email contact, phone number and physical civic address. The project is aiming for the Public Advisory Committee to have their first meeting in March of 2024. This is a great opportunity to help guide statutory plans for long-term use in the Community and we look forward to having your input!
