[ARCHIVED] Slave Lake RCMP investigate an assault on elderly victim

Slave Lake, Alberta - On December 1 at 3:30 AM, RCMP responded to a residential break-in within the town of Slave Lake. A male suspect entered a residence and was confronted by the elderly home owner. A struggle ensued resulting in the elderly victim being struck multiple times with a baseball bat. The victim was able to reach a point of safety and the suspect fled the residence on foot. The suspect was located by responding members a short distance from the residence.

The female victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from hospital.

Charges are pending against a 19 year old man from Grimshaw, Alberta. The victim and suspect are not known to each other and the suspect's motives are currently unknown. Investigation continues.
