Slave Lake Multi-Recreation Centre to Host Slave Lake Racquet Centre for Pickleball and Badminton
The Town of Slave Lake is thrilled to announce an exciting transformation at the Multi-Recreation Centre (MRC), where the ice will be removed from Arena 2, marking the launch of the inaugural Slave Lake Racquet Centre. This dedicated space for pickleball and badminton will be available from April 9th to July 9th, 2025, providing a much-needed facility for local racquet sports enthusiasts before the ice is put back in place in mid-July.
This new programming is in response to the growing demand for recreational activities in Slave Lake, especially the rapidly increasing popularity of pickleball. With over 1.37 million players nationwide and Pickleball Canada’s membership surpassing 60,000, the sport continues to gain traction across the country, and Slave Lake is no exception. The newly established temporary dedicated space will feature dedicated courts for pickleball and badminton, offering a welcoming environment for players of all ages and skill levels.
Sessions will include Seniors and Youth sessions three times a week and a registered program once a week in the evening. Additional details on court times and upcoming sessions will be included in the upcoming Spring Program Guide and posted on the Town of Slave Lake website. Whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer to the sport, the MRC will offer flexible options to accommodate all skill levels. The MRC is also planning to host a pickleball tournament towards the end of June.
To kick off the season, the MRC will host a Pickleball Clinic every Sunday from 4 PM to 6 PM, running from April 13th to May 18th. Led by local instructor Connor Lacombe-Hitchmough, the clinic will cover everything you need to know about the fastest-growing sport in the world. Participants will quickly grasp the basic rules and techniques, equipping them with the skills to enjoy games with friends and family. Space is limited, so be sure to register early!
