Slave Lake RCMP and the Town of Slave Lake work together in collaborative response to an encampment.
Slave Lake, Alta. – On Nov. 6, 2024, Slave Lake RCMP discovered an encampment within Slave Lake located on municipal property owned by the Town of Slave Lake. Officers took immediate action and notified the relevant town authorities to ensure a collaborative and compassionate approach to this complex situation.
The safety and well-being of all residents and community members remains our top priority. As part of our commitment, we are conducting daily enhanced proactive patrols in the area to monitor activities, deter crime and provide support for any areas experiencing an increase in activity. Officers are also actively engaging with individuals in the encampment, ensuring their safety and directing those in need to the appropriate social services. Additionally, officers are verifying the status of individuals they interact with to address any outstanding legal matters in a respectful and supportive way. At this time there is no to risk the public, and we are working closely with town officials to address this matter responsibly and effectively.
The ‘K’ Division Community Safety and Well-being Unit is working collaboratively with the Slave Lake RCMP Detachment and the Town of Slave Lake to not only address this situation but to also provide support to the region to identify and implement longer-term solutions in the future.
