[ARCHIVED] Slave Lake RCMP received a report of a male who refused to leave a business

The folloiwng is a news release from the Slave Lake RCMP:

On May 3, 2024, Slave Lake RCMP received a report of a male who refused to leave a business. RCMP officers arrived on the scene and located a man, intoxicated, possibly by drugs, with a duffle bag by his side. The man was recognized by officers and identified as having multiple warrants for his arrest. The man was arrested, and an EMS was called because of his state. A search of his bag incidental to the arrest revealed a sawed-off rifle, ammunition, and a knife.

As a result of the investigation, Byron Joseph Michael Beauregard (26), a resident of Wabasca, Alta., was charged with:

  • Possession of prohibited firearm;
  • Possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose;
  • Other firearm-related offences (x3);
  • Mischief under $5000;
  • Failure to comply with order;
  • Obstruct police officer; and
  • Escaping lawful custody.

Beauregard was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Slave Lake on May 8, 2024.

“Here is another great example of how a seemingly routine call can lead to something more,” said Slave Lake RCMP Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Casey BRUYNS. “We encourage the public to keep calling crimes in and helping us apprehend those who would cause harm and further interfere with the enjoyment of our town through criminality."
