Slave Lake is a community that looks after its own. We know that everyone in our community needs a safe place to sleep, stay warm and find extra support when needed. That’s why the Town of Slave Lake has secured provincial funding to operate a permanent homeless shelter that's open 24/7.
Choosing a permanent location for a shelter is a significant decision because it directly affects the well-being and safety of those experiencing homelessness as well as the broader community. We’ve identified five possible locations for the new shelter and want to hear from you about what we should consider in our decision-making process.
Understanding the best location for a homeless shelter involves considering various factors, including accessibility, community impact, and available resources. It also requires your voice and perspective to ensure we are making informed choices. Depending on your perspective, there are different pros, cons and trade-offs for each location.
The Town of Slave Lake Council wants to hear from as many community members as possible to understand your perspectives about each of the proposed shelter locations before making a final decision.
How can I share my ideas?
