Land Use Bylaw
The Land Use Bylaw (LUB) is the Town of Slave Lake’s primary regulatory planning document. It sets out how land may be used and developed within the Town.
The LUB divides the Town into land-use districts (zones) and establishes development rules for each district. These rules help ensure development is orderly, compatible, and consistent across the community.
The current Land Use Bylaw is #15-2025.
What the LUB Does
The LUB provides the regulations that guide day-to-day development in the Town. It includes:
- Land use districts and zoning boundaries
- Permitted and discretionary uses in each district
- Development standards such as setbacks, height, site coverage, and parking
- Requirements related to accessory buildings, signage, and landscaping
- Procedures for development permits, variances, and approvals
The LUB applies to all properties within the Town of Slave Lake.
How the LUB Affects You?
For Residents and Property Owners
The LUB helps determine what types of development are allowed on a property and what regulations apply. It is used when planning projects such as home additions, garages, fences, accessory buildings, or changes in use.
For Applicants and Developers
The LUB provides the regulatory framework for reviewing development permit applications. It outlines zoning, permitted and discretionary uses, and development regulations that must be met as part of the application process.
For Businesses and Investors
The LUB identifies where commercial and industrial uses may be located and the requirements that apply. It provides clarity and consistency for planning new businesses, expansions, or redevelopment.
