COVID-19 Garbage Collection Update

Covid-19 Garbage

The Town of Slave Lake would like to update residents on some changes GFL has made for the pickup of waste.  These changes are being made to protect both the community and their staff and to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

“Bagged Waste” is now a Strict guideline which we have to follow without exceptions.

GFL drivers are not allowed to handle any waste / loose garbage items to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

Please ensure that you are bagging any and all waste you are putting in your garbage bins.  Please do not overflow your garbage bins.

GFL usually services all waste bins with a fully automated Truck that has an “Arm” that does all the work for us, where we do not have to touch the can.

In order to safely service Gloryland a smaller waste truck is being used.  The roads are unable to handle the larger GFL trucks.

This smaller truck is not fully automated and garbage pickup requires more manual handling.  There is a significant amount of “loose waste” in the bins.

Due to COVID-19 and manual handling of the bins due to the season, GFL unfortunately will have to refuse Pick Up of any bin that contains an excessive amount of loose waste.

Contents in the can must be bagged for GFL to safely handle the garbage bins and dump it without risk of cross contamination.

If your bagged is tagged with an orange sticker there was too much loose waste in the bin.

Please help in making sure that any and all contents your are putting into the garbage bin is bagged.   This is one way we call all help stop the spread of Covid-19, and assist GFL in keeping their employees safe and our garbage off the streets.
