Slave Lake, Alta. - A 34 year old male is facing twenty Criminal Code charges after having a run-in with the Slave Lake RCMP on the night of July 25, 2019. At around 11:30 PM, police were alerted to two people standing on Highway 2 west of Slave Lake waiving their arms at passing traffic. When asked for identification, the male allegedly provided a false name. The officer was suspicious of the name and believed it to be false. The officer confronted the male on this fact at which point the male provided his proper name.
After learning the male's true identity, it was learned that he was breaching court imposed release conditions. Upon being arrested for failing to comply with the conditions, weapons and drugs were located in his possession. These included a prohibited switch blade knife, brass knuckles and substances believed to be meth, fentanyl and prescription pills.
Charges are pending against the male resident of Grande Prairie who remains in custody awaiting a formal bail hearing.
