Over the last few weeks, Town Council along with residents have been lobbying CN rail for attention towards 2 issues within our region.
1. The highway 88 rail crossing has become a safety concern as the wooden ties have lasted beyond their life span. CN has opted towards a more permanent fix that will see that intersection with new ties, removal of wooden ties and installation of an asphalt crossing instead.
2. The second is some aesthetic and safety concerns with their rail yard on 2 Ave NW. CN has committed to cleaning up the site, removing a number of items, installing signage, and are looking at fencing options.
Please note that CN rail privately owns their property and public access is not typically allowed. Council did let them know that part of our safety concern was the fact that residents and sometimes children are seen playing in their yard site which has a number of dangerous elements to it. They do have the ability to ticket and fine residents who cross their property. Expect them to be in the area in the next few weeks initially working on educating residents to stay off their property and if necessary tickets will be issued.
We want to thank CN for looking into these issues and working towards resolutions.
