Two Youths Caught Driving High, COVID19 Charges Issued and Immediate Roadside Driving Suspensions Issued and Cannabis Seized
On the evening of January 8, 2021 at approximately 8:00pm, a Slave Lake Peace Officer conducted a traffic stop on Flattop Road where two vehicles were pulled over for a documentation check. The drivers of both cars , who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act were found to be operating their cars after having smoked cannabis.
Other passengers were also inside the vehicle at this time. During the course of the investigation, the Officer determined the drivers recently consumed cannabis which is contrary to their license status , were unlawfully in possession of cannabis and breaching the public health orders under the Alberta Public Health Act. Both drivers received an immediate 24 hour suspension and were given Slave Lake’s first tickets under the Public Health Act.
The Slave Lake Peace Officer did a good job at intercepting this serious impaired driving offence and could have resulted in a far worse outcome.
GDL drivers may not consume cannabis or any intoxicating substances before driving as the limit is set to zero.
