The Town of Salve Lake would like to remind residents that according to the Snow Removal Bylaw (#32-2017), property owners are required to clear any snow and ice from the sidewalk(s) adjacent to their property within 24 hrs after a snow fall. They are also not allowed to place the snow into the street, as this can create problems for traffic and other street users. It is also important not to pile snow so that it obstructs fire hydrants. This is an obvious safety issue – the Fire Department may need immediate access to the hydrant and snow piled on/adjacent to the hydrant can create a delay in their response.
In many parts of town, the Town’s Operations crews remove residential snow on streets by windowing it to one side. Residents who have a sidewalk that is covered by snow that has been deposited there by Town crews are not required to remove the windrow to clear the sidewalk.
Our rules around snow removal are in place to help people who need to access the sidewalk to be able to do so in a safe manner. Let’s do our best to help our neighbours out
