Town of Slave Lake lead testing program

Lead Testing Program

As part of a testing program implemented by Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) the Town of Slave Lake will be testing water from residential service lines throughout town to ensure compliance with new lead concentration limits. It should be stressed that the town has no concerns with lead in the water, and based on early testing there are no problems with lead concentration in the towns water supply.

The main cause of lead in drinking water is from it leeching into the water when sitting in residential building water lines. This is caused by lead based solder, which was predominantly used before 1975. As a result, the Town is aiming to test buildings that were built prior to 1975.

The Town will be reaching out to residents to request lead tests be performed at their residence based on parameters set forth by AEP. If your residence was built before 1975, you can also reach out to the Town of Slave Lake Utilities department at 780 849 8026 to set up a time for a sample to be collected at your residence. There will be no cost for this testing, and you will be made aware of the results within two weeks of the Town receiving the testing results.

The Town of Slave Lake would like to thank you for your co-operation.
