Know Before You Go: Recreation Facilities

As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, our recreation facilities are adapting to changing circumstances. On this page, you will find current restrictions and safety measures in place at our facilities, as well as measures you can take to better prepare for your visit. Restriction Exemption Program (REP)

Town of Slave Lake Recreation Facilities will be implementing the REP starting November 8th at the Multi Rec Centre and November 15th at the Northern Lights Aquatic Centre. With the exception of youth activities (see Youth Activities section below) all those 12 years and older entering our recreation facilities will be required to show proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test from within the last 72 hours or a medical exemption letter. Those 18 years and older will also have to provide ID to confirm their identity.

  



 

QR Code Vaccination Records

Digital scanning for QR Codes will be in effect prior to November 15th, other forms of vaccination (eg records without QR codes) will be accepted up to November 14th.

Effective November 15th, the Government of Alberta has directed that a scannable QR code must be shown on all vaccination records. Proof of ID will also be required for those 18 years and older to confirm identity.

 

Know Before You Go – Restriction Exemption Program

To access recreation facilities, guests 12 years of age and older (with the exception of those participating in organized youth activities) are required to show one of the following (note: guests over 18 years of age must also produce government-issued photo ID):

 

Proof of Vaccination

Proof of vaccination includes:

  • A picture or paper record of a valid Alberta Health Services, MyHealth Records, pharmacy, First Nation, or physician immunization record prominently displaying the name, type of vaccine and date administration, or
  • Canadian armed forces immunization record, displaying the name, type of vaccine, and date of administration, or
  • An immunization record from another Canadian Province or Territory, displaying the name, type of vaccine and date of administration, or
  • Valid Government of Alberta Vaccination QR code

At least one dose is required up to October 25. After October 25, two doses of a two dose series are required (Janssen vaccine is the only Health Canada approved vaccine that requires a single dose)

Effective November 15th all MyHealth Records must show the QR codes.

Proof of Negative Test

Testing must not be sourced from Alberta Health Services public COVID-19 testing system.

A written or printed copy of a negative Health Canada approved, or lab accredited, rapid antigen, rapid PCR or lab based PCR test is required for entry.

A self-test and/or self-produced documentation of a negative result is not sufficient evidence to support entry into a facility under REP.

Documentation of a completed test must include:

  • A clear indication of the laboratory or the health care professional that completed the test (eg. DynaLIFE), the type of test, time of sample collected and clear indication of a negative result
  • If the result of a rapid test is being verified by a health care professional, a written record must also include the name, phone number, contact info, professional registration number and signature of the physician or nurse practitioner
  • A picture or any other written documentation of a rapid test result is not sufficient evidence for participation/entry

Medical Exemption Letter

A valid medical exemption is the original signed letter from a physician or nurse practitioner that includes:

  • The name of the person in the written documentation that matches the identification provided
  • The physician’s or nurse practitioner’s information is completed by including:
    1. Name, phone number, contact information, professional registration number and signature of the physician or nurse practitioner
  • Statement that there is a medical reason for the individual’s exemption from being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and
  • The duration of the exemption

Proof of ID

Individuals 18 years and older must also present personal ID. Proof of identification can be established using documentation issued by an institution or public body provided it includes the name of the holder and birthdate. Acceptable documents that may be used to confirm identification are:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Citizenship card
  • Driver’s License
  • Provincial or Territorial issued identification card including a health card
  • Metis, Treaty, Inuit status card
  • Passport
  • Permanent Resident Card

Photo ID is not required.

Youth Activities

Youth (under 18 years) participating in an organized youth activity (eg swim lessons, PD Day Camps, Minor Hockey, Youth Pickleball) are not required to be screened for vaccination/negative COVID-19 test/medical exemption. Coaches, instructors, referees etc. who are 18 years and older are required to provide proof of vaccination/negative COVID-19 test/medical exemption.

Youth 12 and Older Not Participating in Youth Activity

If youth wish to access other amenities beyond a specific youth activity in the facility, they will be required to be screened per the REP if they are 12 or older.

A youth is permitted to watch other youth activities in the facility, however, they are subject to REP requirements to do so. 

If not actively participating in the youth activity, they must follow the REP requirements.

Activities for Schools (K-12)

School groups accessing facilities under REP for the purposes of K-12 curriculum are not required to be screened as part of the REP.

Multi Rec Centre Fieldhouse and Track

  • Please be prepared to present ID (18+ years) and proof of vaccination, negative test from within 72 hours or a medical exemption for all those 12 years and older
    1. If you are arriving for an organized youth activity please see the Youth Activities section
  • Masks are required in the facility for all those aged 2 years and older, or those actively engaged in a physical activity
  • Pre-booking is no longer required, please check out the drop in schedule for availability

Arenas and Skating Activities

  • Please be prepared to present ID (18+ years) and proof of vaccination, negative test from within 72 hours or a medical exemption for all those 12 years and older
    1. If you are arriving for an organized youth activity please see the Youth Activities section
  • Masks are required in the facility for all those aged 2 years and older, or those actively engaged in a physical activity
  • Pre-booking is no longer required, please check out the drop-in schedule for availability

Aquatics

  • Please be prepared to present ID (18+ years) and proof of vaccination, negative test from within 72 hours or a medical exemption for all those 12 years and older
    1. If you are arriving for an organized youth activity please see the Youth Activities section
  • Masks are required in the facility for all those aged 2 years and older, or those actively engaged in a physical activity
  • Masks must be worn in change rooms, in the bleachers and on deck before entering water
  • We recommend you come dressed to limit time in the change rooms

Do you keep copies of my records?

The Town of Slave Lake does not collect or retain any personal health information

What if I don’t want to get vaccinated?

You are able to use our facilities if you provide a negative COVID-19 test from within the last 72 hours provided it meets the requirements listed under Proof of Negative Test

Can an at home test be used to demonstrate a negative test result?

No, please refer to the requirements under Proof of Negative Test. At home tests do not meet the requirements from the Province of Alberta

Are birthday parties and other private gatherings allowed at facilities?

Please call the Multi Rec Centre or Northern Lights Aquatic Centre to discuss rental options. There are still limits on indoor private social gatherings

Are religious exemptions acceptable for those looking to attend facilities?

The Government of Alberta’s REP does not recognize religious exemptions

I forgot my proof of vaccination – can I still access facilities?

Proof of vaccination or a negative test is required by all eligible individuals. No admittance will be provided without proof of vaccination or a negative test. Proof of vaccination can be accessed from a smart phone at any time.

I’m vaccinated, do I still need to wear a mask?

Yes, masking is still mandatory in all public indoor spaces except when participating in physical activity.

Do I need to bring proof of vaccination or a negative test every time I visit facilities?

Please be ready to show proof of vaccination or a negative test (and ID for those 18 yrs and over). We have several different staff who check individuals in. We do not store any personal health data.
